Any action or behaviour that causes interference with convention operations, discomfort to other attendees, or adversely affects AFC Events Pty Ltd’ relationship with its attendees, guests, its venues or the public is strictly forbidden and may result in confiscation of convention badge and immediate removal from the convention area and hotel, as well as suspension of attendance for subsequent years.
It is AFC Events Pty Ltd’s sole aim to provide attendees with a safe and fun filled environment. In order to ensure that everyone enjoys themselves, and gets the most out of the the entire convention, AFC Events Pty Ltd has compiled the following list of regulations. These regulations are not intended to kill the fun, but rather to encourage you to have fun, and think of everyone else around you at the same time. We seek only to ensure that the behaviour of any one small group does not disturb the convention, or associated events as a whole, nor does it detract from the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of the convention.
Most of the convention is for general audiences (PG15 or less). We will mark clearly the few areas and events which may exceed a general audience rating. At registration, you may choose to sign an age statement, stating that you are over 18 years of age. If you choose not to sign this statement, or are not over 18 years of age, your badge will be marked and you will only be allowed admittance to those areas or events which are for a general audience. Please be prepared to show your badge any time you need access to convention space or events – it identifies you as a fully-paid attendee of the convention. Any defacing or alteration of con badges may render them invalid, and result in refusal of entry. Furthermore, as the hotel has also been booked for the exclusive use of AFC Events Pty Ltd, you may be required to present your con badge upon entry, although some leniency will be given on the first day.
AFC Events Pty Ltd strives to maintain an environment that is safe and enjoyable for all Convention goers of all ages; we cannot, however, take responsibility for the actions of individual Convention goers, neither will we assume responsibility for those who are the legal responsibility of someone else. Any persons under the age of 18, must either be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian, or present a signed and notarized statement (available by contacting the Secretary or from the registration department) indicating parental permission to attend unescorted. Even with such permission, minors must not attempt to attend any events intended for mature audiences unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
AFC Events Pty Ltd would like to invite, and will welcome ALL fans of anthropomorphic art, lifestyle and associated topics of interest; however, the convention’s management reserves the right to deny or revoke the registration of any individual at any time. This action may be undertaken in the event that an individual’s presence or behaviour causes interference with convention operations or adversely affects the organization’s relationship with its guests or with its venue. AFC Events Pty Ltd also reserves the right to amend these rules at any time without prior or posted notice. If you have any questions, please contact the Convention Vice Chairman.
Anyone who accepts a Convention pass agrees to indemnify and hold harmless AFC Events Pty Ltd, from any claim for personal injuries or other damages or equity arising out of any individual’s activities at AFC Events Pty Ltd, even if such injury or damage is caused by negligence by or on the part of AFC Events Pty Ltd.
Any activity undertaken by a member to promote an explicit, illicit or adult orientated event where the name of AFC Events Pty Ltd, ConFurgence, or any of our names are being used will result in the removal of said member, confiscation of the members badge, and depending on the circumstances, potential future bans from all future AFC Events Pty Ltd events.
Use your common sense in public areas. If you have to ask or think twice about doing it in public, take it to your room. For example, kissing and holding hands, regardless of sexual orientation, are fine. Groping, heavy kissing/petting and nudity, regardless of sexual orientation, are not. We ask you to always wear at least a shirt, shorts, and shoes in public areas of the hotel and convention centre. Pools and other similar areas are exempt.
Shirts, pants/shorts, and footwear must be worn when in the lobby of the hotel and in any restaurant attached to the hotel. Bathing suits, swimmers, bikinis etc. are not considered to be appropriate attire. Costumes (fur suits) are considered “appropriate attire” in all areas of the hotel except for the restaurants and the pool area, provided that the costumes are not unacceptably revealing. Costumes are not permitted in the restaurants or the pool area due to concerns for the safety of the costumer.
Attendees, when in public areas, may not wear clothing which is overly revealing or inappropriate to the atmosphere of the convention. The latter includes fetish-related garb and accoutrements. Collars are acceptable and are worn by numerous attendees as a fashion statement, but leashes and harnesses attached thereunto are not acceptable in the hotel public area.
Whilst alcohol is permitted in the convention centre and the hotel, AFC Events Pty Ltd strongly supports responsible drinking. Any person seen to be intoxicated will be refused service of alcohol and may be asked to leave the Convention area temporarily. Alcohol will be sold in the convention area, however no person may bring alcohol into the convention area from outside sources. Management reserves the right to perform bag checks to ensure this policy is maintained.
It is an offense to supply alcohol to a person under the age of 18 years (penalty exceeds $6000) or for a person under the age of 18 years to purchase or receive liquor (penalty exceeds $5000). These rules are enforceable by law under the Victorian Liquor Control Reform Act (1998).
To ensure the safety of all those attending the convention, AFC Events Pty Ltd maintains a very strict weapons policy. These policies are enforced at all times.
No weapons or any item that can be easily mistaken for one may be carried either openly or concealed at any time in convention space. Padded swords, bokken and similar striking implements used to practice swordplay may not be used in any convention area. Weapon replicas may be worn as part of a costume only at the Fursuit Parade and during convention-sponsored costuming events at the discretion of the Executive Board, and must be cased or otherwise secured when being transported to and from that event. If you have any questions as to the permissibility of a prop for your masquerade performance, please contact the Vice Chairman prior to the convention.
If at any time these items are held or used in such a way that would be construed as threatening, however, they will be considered weapons.
AFC Events Pty Ltd will provide a message board in a public area at Convention related events, where Convention goers may post messages, place announcements for get-togethers etc. Keep it clean. Be aware that you are a reflection on AFC Events Pty Ltd as a convention, and The Australian Furry Community. The AFC Events Pty Ltd staff reserves the right to remove any posted materials that are considered inappropriate.
Do not affix anything to the walls of the Convention Space and Accommodation facilities, including in the elevators.
Any promotional material for any other events, conventions, goods or services shall not be advertised around the convention space, the hotel or surrounding areas where the convention takes place without express, written consent from the AFC Events Pty Ltd Executive Board prior to the event.
Please note: all memberships are fully transferable, however non-refundable. Registrations must be transferred for free or for less than the original price; any evidence of attempted profiteering will result in the invalidation of associated passes. For logistical reasons, memberships cannot be transferred once pre-registrations have closed.
AFC Events Pty Ltd cannot involve itself in financial disputes between individual Convention goers, and cannot divulge information about an individual member to any party other than to banking officials or legal authorities.
The offering for sale of any merchandise at the convention may be undertaken only in the Dealers’ room, and in the Art Show; in all cases the sale will be governed by the rules applicable to those areas. Any persons attempting to sell merchandise in other locations, whether that be in the hotel or convention area, may be asked to purchase a Dealers Den pass.
There is no smoking in any portion of Accommodating Hotels, even in YOUR rooms. There is likewise no smoking in any portion of the Convention Space and Accommodation facilities. It is respectfully requested that those people who step outside to smoke kindly refrain from standing directly in front of any of the entrances, as the smoke is simply carried inside.
Please remember that you are a guest of the hotel, and that there may be other guests staying or dining at the hotel who are not Convention goers. It is only common courtesy to maintain a level of noise appropriate to the time and place. We expect everyone to cooperate fully with AFC Events Pty Ltd and with local security personnel.
“Disorderly conduct” may result in revocation of your Convention access pass, and includes any and all fighting, any inappropriate horseplay, or any actions that directly or recklessly cause undue disturbance or disruption of any convention or hotel function. This restriction also holds for hotel facilities.
No items of any kind, including paper airplanes, may be thrown or dropped from the Convention Space and Accommodation facilities’ balconies or patios.
No water pistols, silly string, or any other projectile-type toy may be used in any public area of the Convention Space and Accommodation facilities.
No sleeping in the lobby, the hallways, or anywhere else not designated as such. Seriously…Get a room, please!
Should a decision be made to revoke Convention Passes from anyone causing a disruption to the event, we ask that our Convention goers respect such a decision, which is always made after careful consideration by the AFC Events Pty Ltd Executive Board.
AFC Events Pty Ltd is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable convention experience for everyone. Harassment of any kind, including physical assault, deliberate intimidation, stalking, verbal or sexual abuse of any kind, or unwelcome attention, will NOT be tolerated. If people tell you “no” or to leave them alone, your business with them is done. No means NO! Defences like “I thought they were only joking” will not be tolerated!
Leave them alone. Do not follow them or attempt to disrupt their convention experience in any way. If you continue to attempt to have contact with those people, you may be removed from the premises, and banned from future conventions.
AFC Events Pty Ltd is not responsible for solving any interpersonal problems that may arise between individual Convention goers. In general, we can take no action to prevent a person from attending the convention unless that person has made a specific and credible threat toward the convention itself. If you feel that a threat exists against your person, we advise you to seek a restraining order against the individual in question and to present it to the Chairman in advance of the convention; otherwise, we recommend simply avoiding that individual. If that individual stalks, harasses, or attempts to assault you at the convention itself, you may report that individual to a member of the security staff and the appropriate action will be taken. Conversely, any attempt to have an innocent person removed from the convention by falsely accusing him or her of threats will be itself treated as an act of harassment and will be dealt with appropriately.
The responsibility for settling interpersonal disputes lies solely with the individuals involved, and AFC Events Pty Ltd will not tolerate being used as a leveraging point in such disputes.
The sale or other distribution of any illegal or controlled substances is not welcome at AFC Events Pty Ltd events.
Any individual found to be distributing such substances will be removed and reported directly to the local authorities. Bottled alcoholic beverages may legally be given as gifts. AFC Events Pty Ltd asks that such beverages be consumed in the privacy of a hotel room and not taken into any convention function or function space. Please note an important caveat involving minors: Anyone knowingly or unknowingly providing alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 will be guilty of a felony and will be turned over to the authorities. It is the sole responsibility of persons serving alcohol in room parties to ensure that every person in attendance is over the age of 18, even if that person is not drinking alcohol. The Victorian Government is extremely serious about this law and we ask our Convention goers to respect it.
All journalists, media photographers, and any other members of the press are required to display an official AFC Events Pty Ltd Press Badge or be accompanied by a AFC Events Pty Ltd Executive Board member at all times while in the Convention Centre, or any Convention hotel. Members of the press who have not been issued a Press Badge may not conduct interviews or take photographs, audio or video footage without an escort.
If members of the media are present, attendees must act responsibly. Media representatives who do not have Press Badges and are not escorted by an AFC Events Pty Ltd staff member should be reported to AFC Events Pty Ltd Security staff or to Convention Operations immediately. Do not speak to any unbadged and unescorted members of the press!
AFC Events Pty Ltd members should be aware that audio and/or video recordings are frequently made in convention areas and that their likenesses may appear in those recordings. Individual members agree to assign without compensation the use of their likeness(es) at The Convention for the use of promotional material such as the highlights videos.
The name “AFC Events Pty Ltd” and the AFC Events Pty Ltd logo is Copyrighted by AFC Events Pty Ltd, and must not be used in any fashion that disparages or dilutes that mark. Members agree to remove from circulation or publication any image or recording that in the sole opinion of AFC Events Pty Ltd, misrepresents or defames its service mark.
AFC Events Pty Ltd reserves all rights to video and photo material gathered at the convention with the exception of footage from private rooms. AFC Events Pty Ltd grants you the right to use videos and photos you have taken at the convention for private and/or non-commercial purposes in the form of 5 minute clips. Any clips not officially released by AFC Events Pty Ltd that exceed this limit will be reported, and bans may be imposed at the discretion of the AFC Events Pty Ltd Executive Board.
While we encourage people to keep personal memories of their time at AFC Events Pty Ltd, it is a breach in copyright to release any performance material that is not your own. This includes, but it not limited to comedy and musical performances. Any breach in this law will be reported to the appropriate authorities, and may result in both criminal charges, and suspension of future membership.
Photography and Video
Cameras of any type are permitted in the general convention and event space with the exception of the following circumstances:
- No use of cameras of any sort are permitted inside the Fursuit/Costumers lounge.
- No use of cameras of any sort will be permitted inside or near the Fursuit Photo Shoot space for the 30 minutes prior to the Official Fursuit/Costumers parade, with the exception of Official Photographers and Videographers. Official photographers will be taking a high resolution, panoramic photograph of the Official Fursuit Group inside the ballroom, which will be printed and put up for auction during the Official Charity Auction.
- No use of cameras of any type are permitted within the vicinity of the Art Show.
- No use of cameras of any type are permitted during the Charity Auction event with the exception of the Official Media Team.
- Certain panels and events are marked as “Please No Cameras”. This is due to the sensitive nature of the content of the event, and for the protection of the participants. An example of this will include the “Metaphysical Furs” panel, where deep and personal discussion will take place. This amendment is for the protection of the privacy of those partaking in said conversations and discussions.
- No use of cameras of any type are permitted inside the Fursuit Photography Room with the exception of the Official Media Team.
Any person capturing photographs, footage or sound recordings must ensure that the subject of their capture grants permission for their likeness to be captured. Should an attendee object to being captured by any other attendee, official media team etc, the content must immediately be deleted.
Any other photographs may be taken throughout the convention during the full 3 days of the convention, at the leisure of the attendees.
If you are a panelist at ConFurgence, or are otherwise involved in an event during the convention, you agree to allow ConFurgence to publish your image, voice and creative inputs for the events for which you were involved in.
This publication may include (but is not limited to) publication on the ConFurgence DVDs, panel podcasts, publication on the ConFurgence website, press releases, online media websites (including but not limited to Youtube, Vimeo and Fur Affinity) and shown in public spaces either online and offline.
Any creative works including (but not limited to) photographs, video, audio, music or drawings presented in your event remain your copyrighted material, and no claim by ConFurgence or AFC Events Pty Ltd will be made to the contrary. ConFurgence and AFC Events Pty Ltd will ensure that your material falls under fair use or Creative Commons rights and are presented in a legal and fair manner. You agree to allow ConFurgence to re-transmit these creative works in the means described in the above and accept responsibility for any rights issue associated with materials presented in the event.
Removal of Membership
The decision to remove an attendee from the convention space, hotel or venue property must be undertaken and agreed to by a majority of AFC Events Pty Ltd Executive Board Members.
We reserve the right to alter these policies at any time without notification.
